Time to ditch the 'special relationship' for something more honest
I was talking to my mate, who works for a charity that does aid work in the Middle East, the other day. He was telling me about how much harder it is for them to get things done on the ground because of the constant meddling from bigger powers, often with conflicting agendas. It struck me then how much of that mirrors Scotland's position on the world stage, constantly being dragged along by decisions made in London that don't always serve our interests, or even align with our values.
We talk about our place in the world, but for too long we've been tethered to Westminster's foreign policy, which often feels more about propping up old empires or playing geopolitical games than genuine international cooperation. An independent Scotland could forge its own path, building relationships based on shared values and mutual respect, not historical baggage.
