The obsession with Net Zero targets is frankly ludicrous when you look at the cost to ordinary families. My wife Sarah's always worried about the heating bills come winter, and it’s not just her. Businesses are struggling too, caught between these grand pronouncements and the harsh reality of keeping the lights on. It’s all well and good wanting a cleaner planet, but not if it means people can't afford to live.
We need to be sensible about this. That means investing seriously in reliable energy sources. Nuclear power makes absolute sense – it’s clean, consistent, and we can build more of it. And let’s not pretend we can just switch off gas overnight. Exploring our own reserves is a practical step that boosts energy independence and keeps costs down, at least in the short to medium term.
This isn't about ignoring environmental concerns, it's about doing things in a way that actually works for people.
