Enough with the charity shop clothes for job seekers already!
Why are we still making people sign on the dole and then giving them a voucher for clothes from a charity shop to go to a job interview? Seriously, have you seen some of the stuff in those places? It’s humiliating.
My proposal is simple: a proper clothing allowance for anyone looking for work who doesn't have suitable interview attire. This isn't about handing out freebies; it's about giving people a fighting chance. We'd give them a set amount of money on their Universal Credit, say £100, specifically for interview clothes. They could spend it in any high street store – M&S, Next, wherever. It means they can buy something that fits, is clean, and makes them feel confident, not like they're about to go on a backwards treasure hunt.
Think about it from a business perspective, too. If someone shows up looking sharp, they’re more likely to impress.
Enough with the green fantasies, let's get cheap power for homes and businesses NOW.
We need a new national energy policy focused on reliable, affordable power and frankly, that means more gas and nuclear and less of the expensive green stuff for now. My clients are terrified about their heating bills this winter, and mine are through the roof too; it’s not sustainable.
This isn't about ignoring the environment, it's about being realistic. While we invest long-term in renewables, we need a solid base of power that doesn't fluctuate wildly or cost an arm and a leg. Gas power stations are still the most reliable and cheapest option for keeping the lights on and businesses running, and we should be building more of them if needed, not shutting them down. Same with nuclear – it’s expensive and slow to build, but it’s clean and reliable power once it’s up and running.
Sort Out Voting Before It's Too Late
I'm sick of hearing about people not voting because they don't think it'll make a difference, it's all the same old parties, or they just can't be bothered. I hear it from my clients all the time, they're fed up with the system and feel like their vote won't count. It's frustrating because I know they're not alone, and it's a big problem for our country.
I think we need to change the way we vote, make it more proportional so smaller parties have a chance. At the moment it's all about Labour and the Tories, and if you don't like either of them you're kind of stuck. I've voted for different parties over the years, and I think it's time we made it easier for people to vote for who they really want, not just the least worst option. It's not just about the parties though, it's about making sure our voices are heard.
Politicians Should Declare Everything
what's the point of having rules about declaring gifts and donations if they're just going to get ignored or hidden anyway. I mean think about it, if I tried to fiddle the books at my salon I'd be in serious trouble, but it seems like some politicians think they're above all that.
I've had clients come in here and talk about how fed up they are with the whole system, and I don't blame them. It's like they're saying one thing and doing another, and that's just not good enough. So here's what I think should happen: every single gift, donation, or benefit that a politician gets should be declared and made public. No exceptions, no excuses.
And it shouldn't just be the politicians themselves who have to declare this stuff, it should be their families too. I mean if a politician's partner or kid is getting some kind of benefit because of who they're related to, that should be out in the open.
