Pragmatic Energy: Reliable Power, Realistic Investment

I understand the concern about energy bills. As a school governor, I see how rising costs impact everything from classroom heating to the PTA's budget. We need a plan that ensures our homes and businesses have secure, affordable power, but I don't think abandoning renewables is the answer. It's about managing the transition sensibly.

We should certainly be investing in gas and nuclear as essential components for reliable baseload power while we scale up green energy. However, simply building more gas plants feels like a step backward. We need to look at incentivising newer, more efficient gas technologies and ensuring our nuclear programme is on track and delivered on budget, which has been a historical issue. Accountability for these massive projects is key.

The real issue isn't just the type of power, but the infrastructure and market stability.
