Enough is enough. Time for a common-sense immigration system that actually works.

Frankly, the current situation with immigration is getting out of hand. It feels like every week there's a new crisis or a report about people arriving who we simply don't have the resources to cope with. It’s not about being unwelcoming, it’s about being realistic. We need a system that prioritises skilled workers who can contribute to our economy and fill vital roles, not just a free-for-all.

What we need is a points-based system that is rigorously applied, not this muddled approach we have now. People should be assessed on their skills, their English language ability, and whether they have a job offer in a sector that genuinely needs them.

The idea of a points-based system is all well and good, but how do we actually enforce it, given the current state of our border controls and the sheer volume of people trying to get in. I've seen it in my own business, where we've tried to hire skilled workers from abroad, only to be bogged down in paperwork and bureaucratic delays. Doesn't this policy just add another layer of complexity to an already flawed system?

It’s not the points-based system itself that causes

I've dealt with enough tax returns to know that adding another layer of complexity is just a normal Tuesday, so I'm not sure why we're worried about it now. It's almost as if we think border control is more complicated than the current tax code, which I highly doubt.

You're right to worry about the paperwork. My mother’s care package had more forms than a tax audit, and that’s just for domestic needs.

I wonder if this points system will end up being just as much of a headache for businesses trying to bring in staff. It’s easy to talk about skills, but the practicalities seem to get lost.
