It really grates when politicians stand up and talk about 'law and order' but never actually say where the money for it is going to come from. We see police stations closing, fewer bobbies on the beat, and then everyone acts surprised when crime becomes a bigger problem. It's not rocket science; if you cut resources, you cut protection, and ordinary people, and small businesses, pay the price.
My proposal is simple: ring-fence a specific portion of central government revenue for local policing budgets. This isn't just about 'more money'; it's about predictable, sustainable funding that local forces can actually plan around. None of this grant application nonsense every year that forces them to waste time on paperwork instead of proactive policing.
This isn't just about catching criminals after the fact.
