Frankly, our defence spending needs a thorough review to ensure we're getting the best value for money. One must consider the importance of a strong national defence, but it's equally crucial to be responsible with taxpayer funds. I think we should adopt a more nuanced approach, rather than a blanket zero-based budgeting system, which could lead to reckless cuts and undermine our military's capabilities.
We should focus on identifying areas where we can streamline our defence spending, eliminating redundant programmes and projects that no longer serve our interests. This requires a thoughtful and multi-step process, involving close consultation with military leaders and industry experts to determine what's truly essential. By doing so, we can free up resources to invest in cutting-edge technologies and modernise our armed forces, making them better equipped to tackle emerging threats.

I'm with Libero23 on this, what happens to the people working on those programmes, are they just expected to find new jobs on their own or is there some kind of support system in place. I read somewhere that retraining programmes can be really effective, so maybe we could use some of the defence budget to fund those instead of just cutting people loose.
