Let's Stop Pretending First Past the Post Actually Works

Why do we let a system where the party with fewer votes can win a majority of seats keep going? It’s frankly ridiculous. It means your vote often doesn't count for much unless you're in a marginal constituency, and it distorts representation so badly that governments are elected on a minority of the popular vote. It’s a recipe for cynicism and political apathy, which, trust me, is bad for everyone, including the rule of law.

My proposal is simple: let's adopt a form of proportional representation, specifically Mixed-Member Proportionality (MMP). Think of it like this: half your MPs would still be elected in local constituencies, like they are now, so you still have a voice for your area. But the other half would be elected from party lists, to make sure the overall seat numbers in Parliament properly reflect the national vote share.
