Scrap the Victim Surcharge

I'm proposing we get rid of the victim surcharge, it's a pointless tax on people who've already been punished for their crimes. This surcharge is just another way for the government to make a quick buck, it doesn't actually help the victims or improve the justice system. It's just a way to line the coffers of the Ministry of Justice, which is already bloated and inefficient.

The surcharge is supposed to fund victim services, but in reality, it's just a drop in the ocean, a tiny fraction of the overall budget. And let's be honest, most of the money doesn't even go to the victims, it gets swallowed up by bureaucracy and administrative costs. If we really want to help victims, we should be looking at more effective ways to support them, not just slapping on another tax.

Getting rid of the surcharge would also help to reduce the burden on people who are already struggling to get back on their feet after a conviction.
