I saw that thing about the ballot paper in Clacton being a mile long. What a farce. It’s like they’re trying to make it impossible for anyone to actually vote properly. You end up just squinting at the thing, trying to remember who you were thinking of voting for. It’s not a serious way to run an election, is it? It just muddies the water and probably helps the big parties anyway because people just tick the first name they recognise.
We need to cut down the number of people allowed on the ballot. If you can’t get a certain number of signatures, or if you don’t have a proven track record of some sort, then you shouldn’t be allowed to stand. It’s not about stopping people having a voice, it’s about making sure the voices that do get heard are serious contenders and not just jokers trying to get a bit of attention or split the vote.
