I was talking to a parent at the school gates the other day and she was telling me about her son who's just graduated from university and is now working in London, but he's having to share a tiny flat with three others just to be able to afford the rent. It's not just him, I've got friends whose kids are in the same situation, and it's just not right that a whole generation is being priced out of the housing market like this.
I think about my own kids, Emily and Tom, and I worry about what the future holds for them. They're still at school, but they're already talking about what they want to do when they leave, and it's heartbreaking to think that they might not be able to afford a place of their own, no matter how hard they work. I know I'm not alone in feeling like this, and that's why I think we need to take action to make housing more affordable for young people.
