I was on the bus home from school the other day and it broke down on the outskirts of Harpenden, leaving all of us stranded for over an hour. This isn't the first time it's happened and it's a wonder the thing gets us to our destinations at all. The bus is ancient, the seats are worn out, and the suspension is so bad it feels like you're going to bounce out of your seat every time it hits a pothole.
I've heard similar stories from my friends who rely on the bus to get to work and it's appalling that in this day and age we can't even get a reliable public transport system. It's not just the buses themselves, the routes are outdated and don't reflect the changing needs of our community. I've seen new housing developments spring up around Harpenden but the bus routes haven't been updated to serve them.

It's not just a matter of replacing the old buses, we need to rethink the whole network to make sure it's working for people who rely on it to get to work or school. I've had parents at my school complaining that they can't get their kids to after-school clubs because the buses don't run often enough, or they don't go to the right places — it's a real problem that needs a sensible solution, not just a quick fix.
