Scrap the Grid! Let's Power Our Own Homes Like We Used To, But Smarter

I was chatting with my neighbour yesterday, a lovely woman who’s been here for decades. She was telling me how her energy bill shot up again, and she’s genuinely worried about affording to heat her place this winter. It’s madness. We’ve got all this tech now, solar panels are getting cheaper, battery storage is improving, yet we’re still tied to this ancient, unreliable national grid system that seems to get more expensive and less dependable every year. It’s like insisting on using a landline when everyone else has a smartphone.

My proposal is simple: radically decentralise our energy production and distribution. Instead of forcing everyone onto the national grid, let’s empower individuals and communities to generate and store their own power.
