Kick Out the Luxury Flats, Bring Back Affordable Homes

I'm proposing that we introduce a new rule that at least 50 percent of all new housing developments in Bristol have to be affordable homes, and I think it's about time someone did something about the luxury flat epidemic in our city. The fact is, people who actually live and work here can't afford to buy or rent anywhere, while wealthy investors just sit on empty properties, waiting to sell them for a profit. It's ridiculous that we're prioritizing the interests of wealthy outsiders over the needs of our own community.

The way it would work is that any new development would have to include a significant proportion of affordable homes, which would be defined as properties that are priced at no more than 30 percent of the average local income. This would ensure that people who work in Bristol, like nurses and teachers, can actually afford to live here, rather than having to commute from miles away.
