My neighbour Dave was fuming last week. He’s got one of those fancy electric cars, right? But he couldn't charge it properly because the local substation, apparently, can’t handle the demand when everyone’s trying to plug in their Teslas and kettles at the same time. This whole push for renewables without the grid to back it up is just daft. We’re relying on wind and sun and hoping for the best, while paying through the nose for it.
We need a serious rethink. Instead of chasing every shiny new "green" technology that pops up, often with massive subsidies, we should be investing in proven, reliable power sources. That means looking again at nuclear, and maybe even cleaner versions of fossil fuels, with carbon capture if we must.
