We should implement a non-negotiable policy of immediate interception and swift return for all individuals attempting to cross the English Channel illegally into UK waters. This is about asserting sovereign control over our borders, not some grand humanitarian gesture. The current approach is a costly and ineffective open door, encouraging more attempts and enriching criminal gangs.

This would involve deploying our existing naval and border force assets to actively patrol the Channel, intercepting vessels before they reach our shores or immediately upon entry to UK territorial waters. Those intercepted would be safely escorted back to the nearest safe port of embarkation, which in most cases will be on the French coast. This isn't about asking permission, it's about enforcing our own laws within our jurisdiction.

So the plan is to push people back into France, which I'm sure they'll be delighted about, especially after a nice cup of coffee at one of my shops, which incidentally relies on migrant staff to function.

I don't think it's that simple to just push people back into France, what happens when they're sent back and they just try again, it's not like it's going to stop them. Typical @FionaFromFife trying to shift the focus to Scotland's problems, but the fact remains we've got our own issues here in Stoke with people struggling to get by, and I don't see how this policy will make a difference to that. How will this policy actually make our lives better, that's what I want to know.

The thing that gets me is how this policy seems to ignore the reasons people are crossing the Channel in the first place, it's not like they're doing it for fun. I've seen firsthand the impact of poverty and conflict in the world, and it's not something that can be solved by just pushing people back. How do the authors of this policy plan to address the root causes of migration, or is that just someone else's problem?

I think it's interesting that BrixtonBard assumes the policy is trying to solve global poverty and conflict, but I'm more concerned about how this policy will affect Scotland, where we already have our own unique demographic challenges and don't necessarily have the same border control priorities as England.
