I'm sick of hearing about Scotland's railway problems, it's like they're just trying to get more money out of us. I've got a different take on it, as a plumber I know what it's like to run a business and get paid on time, or not. The railways need a bit of that same sense, you know, get the basics right before you start talking about grand plans.

My idea is to get the skills shortage sorted first, get more young people trained up as engineers and whatnot, so we've got the people to actually fix the railways. Then we can talk about who runs it, but to be honest I don't think it's just about public or private ownership, it's about getting the job done. I've seen some of these new boilers that are supposed to be efficient, but they're just a nightmare to install, that's what's happening with the railways, they're all theory and no practice.

The skills shortage is a valid concern, but I think it's worth considering the broader context of Scotland's railways within the UK's overall transport network, and how that impacts our ability to reduce carbon emissions. We need to think about how to make the railways more efficient and attractive to users, not just in terms of cost, but also in terms of environmental sustainability. How will this proposal address the need to integrate Scotland's railways with the rest of the UK's transport system in a way that supports our climate goals?

I definately think ClaireHumanRights has a point about integrating Scotland's railways with the rest of the UK's transport system, but how is that going to happen when we can't even get the trains running on time in our own city. I've seen the goverment's plans for a new high-speed rail link, but it's all just a bunch of fancy proposals until we sort out the basics. Doesn't it make sense to focus on getting the existing railways working properly before we start talking about expansion and integration with the rest of the UK?

It's certainly a bold idea to suggest a plumbing-based approach to national infrastructure. Perhaps the next step is a royal commission on leaky taps.

Someone was saying the other day that we need to sort out our own house before trying to integrate with the rest of the UK, and I think that applies to the railways too. Typical @ClaireHumanRights, always looking at the big picture, but don't we need to get the trains running on time in Glasgow before we start worrying about the rest of the UK. Doesn't that just add another layer of complexity to an already knackered system, I mean I've seen it in the Army, you can't build on shaky foundations.
