It’s infuriating, this constant focus on internal party politics in Westminster. It feels like a perpetual leadership contest, completely detached from the actual needs of people in places like Aberystwyth. While they’re squabbling over who gets to sit in the big chair, our public services here are struggling, and our unique Welsh challenges are simply ignored. It just perpetuates the feeling that Wales is an afterthought, a region to be managed rather than a nation with its own distinct future.
This cycle of Westminster-centric leadership changes completely misses the point for Wales. We need to move towards a system where devolved nations have a far greater say in their own governance and destiny. My proposal would be for any UK-wide political party leader, upon taking office, to be mandated to present a specific, costed plan for Wales within their first 100 days.
