How many times do we have to see jobs disappear or wages stagnate because businesses can just import workers for less money? It’s like they don’t even care about people already living here who need work.
My proposal is simple: employers wanting to hire from overseas have to prove, beyond any doubt, that they've tried their absolute hardest to find a UK worker first. This means advertising the job properly, not just for a week, and offering a decent wage, not the bare minimum. If they can't find anyone, then and only then can they look abroad, and they'll have to pay that foreign worker the same or more than they'd pay a Brit.
And while we’re at it, we should really look at who’s benefiting from all this. Are these companies genuinely struggling to find skills, or are they just looking for the cheapest option to boost their profits?
