The Heat Is On – And So Are We, Not Brussels

Honestly, I’m sick to death of hearing politicians waffle on about the weather. Blaming anyone, whether it’s Brussels or Boris, for a heatwave is just pure distraction. We’re nurses, we see the effects of this stuff every day. People collapsing, the elderly struggling, our wards packed with heat-related admissions. It’s not a game, it’s not a soundbite.

We need investment, yes, but not just in the Met Office. We need to invest in our public services so they can cope when the weather turns nasty, whatever the cause. That means proper funding for the NHS, more staff so we’re not running on fumes and corridor care becomes a thing of the past. It means better social care so vulnerable people aren’t left to swelter. And yes, we need to get serious about renewables, but that needs to be done in a way that creates decent jobs here, not just lines the pockets of some big energy firm.
