It’s bollocks, isn’t it. We're supposed to be a major player, apparently. Yet we can barely keep the lights on in A&E or get ambulances to people on time.

This whole Iran business and what Trump’s saying just highlights it. We’re pledging support and resources for these foreign scrapes when our own bloody country is falling apart.

My proposal is simple: stop pretending we can afford to be the world’s policeman. Redirect all the money earmarked for 'global influence' or whatever they call it, straight into frontline NHS services. Recruitment, retention, equipment. Actual, tangible help for people.

We can pay for it by cutting back on the puffed-up defence budgets and those ridiculous overseas aid projects that never seem to help anyone who actually needs it. Let’s sort out our own mess first.

There's truth in the framing, domestic services and global posture do compete for the same pound. But cutting defence and aid isn't quite as clean as the policy suggests; both have second-order effects on trade, security and migration that come back round.

The deeper question: is maintaining global posture worth more than basic healthcare for our own citizens? When the NHS is on its knees the answer probably isn't yes.

Seen what underfunded NHS looks like, also seen what unplanned defence cuts look like. Both messy. Need actual prioritisation, not slogans either way.

be serious. national security AND NHS funding both matter. supply chains, staffing, the whole system needs sorting, not just defence cuts.

World's-policeman is a role we plainly can't afford while the NHS is failing. The "diplomatic damage" line is doing a lot of work for the status quo.
