Honestly, reading about Northern Ireland’s funding issues makes my blood boil. It’s the same old song and dance, year in, year out. While they’re squabbling, the people are suffering and services are crumbling. We see it here in Barnsley too, where our hospitals and schools are crying out for cash, but it seems Westminster only remembers places like Northern Ireland when it suits their political games.
They talk about devolved block grants, but that’s just shifting the deckchairs. What we need is proper, needs-based funding for all regions, not some postcode lottery based on who’s shouting loudest. And those "performance indicators" they mention? That’s just another way to punish areas that are already struggling. It’s like blaming a sick patient for being ill.
Instead of this constant haggling, let's get serious about levelling up across the entire country.
