Give Mayors Real Power Over Local Welfare

I think mayors should have the ability to design and implement their own welfare systems, tailored to the specific needs of their region. This would allow them to respond quickly to local issues, like poverty and homelessness, without having to wait for central government to catch up. It's absurd that mayors are expected to make a difference in their communities without being able to control the levers that actually make a difference.

We've seen time and time again that one-size-fits-all solutions from Westminster just don't work for every region. What's needed in London is not what's needed in Manchester or Birmingham. By giving mayors the power to create their own welfare systems, we can start to see real innovation and experimentation, rather than just tweaking the same old failed policies.
