We should give local councils more control over how regional development funds are spent in their areas. This is needed because too often we see money being allocated from the top down without a real understanding of what's actually needed on the ground. I've seen it time and time again in our village, where a new project will be announced with great fanfare, only to realize that it's not really what we needed or wanted.
This approach would work by allowing local councils to identify their own priorities and then apply for funding to support those specific projects. It's just common sense, really - who knows better what a community needs than the people who live and work there. This way, we can ensure that funding is being used effectively and efficiently, rather than just being wasted on some grand scheme that doesn't really benefit anyone.
