Scrap the safe seats nonsense

I was talking to a mate who's a councillor the other day and he was saying how his job's basically a done deal every election because he's in a safe seat. It's ridiculous, if you ask me. He doesn't even have to try, just turn up and collect his paycheck.

I think that's a big part of the problem with our politics, people getting complacent because they know they're going to win no matter what. It's like they're not even accountable to the people they're supposed to represent. And it's not just the councillors, it's the same with MPs. They get in and then they just start worrying about pleasing their party leaders instead of doing what's best for their constituents.

I reckon we should get rid of the safe seats and make every election a real contest. That way, politicians would actually have to listen to people and do what they want, instead of just doing what their party tells them.
