scrap the licence fee already

what's the point of still having a licence fee in this day and age, it's just a outdated tax on owning a telly, who watches broadcast tv anyway. I mean I know some people still tune in to the bbc but it's not like it's the only thing on offer, we've got streaming services coming out of our ears.

I think we should just scrap the licence fee and let the bbc operate like any other media company, they can make their own money through advertising and subscriptions. It's not like they're not already doing this to some extent, the bbc has its own production company that sells shows to other countries, so they're clearly capable of making their own cash.

I know some people will say that getting rid of the licence fee will mean the end of quality programming, but I don't buy it, there's plenty of great shows on streaming services that are funded through advertising and subscriptions.
