I'm proposing we ditch the first past the post system and replace it with a proportional representation system, it's the only way to make sure our votes actually count for something. This system is outdated and it's time for a change, we need a system that reflects the diversity of our communities and gives smaller parties a fair shot.
We've all been in a situation where we feel like our vote doesn't matter because we live in a safe seat, it's frustrating and it's one of the reasons people are so disillusioned with politics. A proportional representation system would make every vote count, regardless of where you live, and it would force politicians to work together to get things done. This would lead to more coalition governments and a more collaborative approach to politics.
I've seen it work in other countries and it's about time we caught up, we can't keep using a system that was designed for a different time.
