I was talking to my neighbour, Carol, the other day. She’s a single mum working two jobs and she’s absolutely terrified of opening her energy bill. She’s already cutting back on everything, but the thought of another price hike is just crushing her. It’s not right that people like Carol, who work their socks off, are constantly worried about keeping their homes warm. It feels like these private energy companies are just lining their pockets while people struggle.
That’s why I think it’s high time we brought our energy infrastructure back into public ownership. Imagine a nationalised energy grid, run for the benefit of the people, not for profit. We could invest in renewable energy on a massive scale, insulate homes properly across the country, and actually control energy prices so they’re fair. No more worrying about shareholders getting their bonuses while families freeze.
