Enough of this nonsense – time to properly fund social housing!

My neighbour, bless her, has been on the housing list for three years. She's a single mum with two kids, working part-time as a cleaner. They’re currently crammed into a tiny two-bedroom flat, mould creeping up the walls, and the landlord’s a right cowboy. Every time I see her, she looks more worn down. It’s not just her, though. I see it every day at work. Families living in temporary accommodation, kids having to move schools because they’re shunted across town, people stuck in damp, overcrowded conditions that are frankly a disgrace in this country.

This constant crisis of social housing isn’t just an unfortunate accident; it’s the result of decades of neglect and policies that have systematically starved councils and housing associations of the funding they need to build and maintain decent homes.
