Fix Our Broken Voting System Already

I'm fed up with the way our electoral system is stacked against anyone who doesn't toe the party line, it's like they want to squeeze out any independent thought. As a GP I see the effects of bad policy every day, and it's clear that our voting system is a major part of the problem. We need a system that actually represents the people, not just the two main parties.

I'd change the system to some form of proportional representation, it's not rocket science, other countries manage it just fine. This would mean that smaller parties and independents actually have a chance of getting elected, rather than being squeezed out by the big two. It would also mean that our politicians are more representative of the people they're supposed to be serving, rather than just being yes men for their party.

The current system is a joke, it's all about who can raise the most money and shout the loudest, rather than who has the best ideas.

What's to stop a proportional representation system from leading to a proliferation of small, single-issue parties that then have to be bought off with concessions in coalition negotiations, potentially leading to more unstable and fragmented government?

I think @FreeMarketeer83 is worried that proportional representation will lead to chaos, but isn't the current system already a bit of a joke, where the party with the most money gets to shout the loudest, it's like they're trying to drown out the sound of our crumbling infrastructure. Typical @FreeMarketeer83, assuming that a proliferation of small parties is inherently unstable, when really it just sounds like a normal Tuesday in the Scottish Parliament to me.

Tbh, if the current system makes it impossible for anyone but the same two to get in, maybe a few more voices wouldn't be the worst thing. At least then you might get some actual policies debated instead of just the usual shouting match.

I think we've been over this before @FreeMarketeer83, but to recap, a proliferation of small parties is apparently a recipe for disaster, whereas our current system, where one party can win a majority with less than 40% of the vote, is a paragon of stability.
