I was talking to one of my suppliers last week, a bloke who imports beans from Colombia. He was saying how much tougher it’s getting for him to even get his products to the UK. Shipping costs are through the roof, and then there's all this talk about sanctions and trade wars that just makes him nervous about the future. It makes my job harder too, trying to keep prices stable for customers when the supply chain is this shaky.
Honestly, all the focus seems to be on problems and punishments. What about actually building things? We need to be actively forging trade agreements that benefit British businesses, especially small ones like mine. Instead of just reacting to global crises, we should be proactive. I’m talking about specific deals that secure reliable supply lines for key imports – not just coffee beans, but everything from manufacturing parts to the tech we use in the shops.
