Scrap the cars from Cambridge city centre

I was swimming in the river Cam the other morning and it struck me how peaceful the city is at dawn, the only sounds being the birds and the water lapping against the banks. But by the time I'd showered and headed into town for a coffee, the streets were already clogged with cars and the noise was deafening. It's a shame, because Cambridge is a city that should be perfect for pedestrians and cyclists, with its narrow medieval streets and picturesque college buildings.

As I walked through the city centre, I couldn't help but think about how much better it would be if we just got rid of all the cars. I know it sounds radical, but hear me out. Other European cities have done it, and it's been a huge success. I think of Stockholm, where I grew up, and how the old town is completely car-free. It's a wonderful place to wander around, with street performers and cafes spilling out onto the pavement.
