I'm just so sick of hearing about these knife attacks, especially when it's kids involved. It feels like every week there’s another story. And what’s the response? More talking shops, more “root cause” analysis that never actually seems to stop the next incident. My mum Evelyn worries about Barnaby walking near the village green sometimes, and she’s 76. Imagine being a parent in London.
We need to get back to basics here. If someone is caught carrying a knife, especially if they’ve got form, they should be facing serious time. Not community service, not a slap on the wrist. A proper deterrent. It’s not about locking everyone up forever, but the message has to be clear: this behaviour has immediate, severe consequences. People need to feel safe walking down the street, and right now, they don't.
And while we're at it, let's look at the courts. Are sentences consistently applied?
