Put Belfast First, Not Last in Line

I think the idea of prioritizing local needs over global ambitions is sound, but it needs to be applied with a bit more nuance, especially in a place like Northern Ireland where we're often forgotten until it's too late. We've got our own unique set of problems, from segregated education to underfunded maternity services, that need attention before we start trying to solve the world's problems.

For me, it's not just about throwing money at the NHS, although that's part of it - it's about recognizing the value of community-led healthcare, like the midwifery services I work in, and giving us the support we need to thrive. That means fewer bureaucratic hurdles and more focus on patient-centered care. And when it comes to global influence, let's be real - for a city like Belfast, that means working with our neighbors in the Republic, not just flying off to conferences in London or Brussels.

How does the policy propose to balance the need for more resources with the likely effect of increased taxation on local businesses and individuals, potentially stifling the very economic growth that could help address these unique problems in the long run?

@FreeMarketPete typical @GrimsbyGrit, but seriously, isn't the real issue here how much of the current "resources" are already wasted on bureaucracy rather than patient care, which is what the policy actually hints at?

Typical @FreeMarketPete, always worrying about the businesses, love, but what about the folk who can't afford to have babies because the maternity services are on their knees, that's the bit that needs sorting first, chuck.

I think it's easy to say we should just sort the maternity services first, but how exactly do you plan to do that without considering the financial implications, cos let's be real, you can't just magic up more money for the NHS without affecting businesses and taxation somehow. I work with budgets all day at M&S and I know you can't just separate the two like that. What's the plan for making sure the funding is sustainable, not just a quick fix?

It's funny, reading about Belfast needing more local focus, I can't help but picture them trying to reroute all the city's recycling bins to exclusively serve the local pigeon population.
