I think we should cancel all plans to expand our motorway network and instead invest in better public transport and cycle routes. This is because our roads are already congested and adding more lanes won't solve the problem, it'll just encourage more people to drive. We need to reduce our reliance on cars if we're going to meet our climate targets and improve air quality in our towns and cities.
The current plans to expand the motorways are a waste of money and will just lead to more traffic and pollution in the long run. We should be investing in alternatives like bus and train services, and making our roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians. This would not only be better for the environment, but it would also improve the quality of life for people living in urban areas.
I've seen it work in other countries, where they've prioritized public transport and made it easy and affordable for people to get around without cars.
