I'm so fed up with our government letting companies export plastic waste to developing countries, it's just disgusting — like we're dumping our trash on people who can't even deal with their own. It's not just the environmental damage, it's the sheer hypocrisy of claiming to be a green leader while shipping our plastic problems overseas.

I'd change the rules so that companies can't just export their plastic waste, they have to deal with it here, in our own country, with our own recycling facilities. That means investing in proper recycling infrastructure, not just relying on other countries to take our trash. It's time we took responsibility for our own waste, instead of passing the buck to someone else.

This isn't just about the environment, it's about fairness and justice — why should other countries have to deal with our plastic waste, just because we can't be bothered to sort it out ourselves.

I wonder how the cost of investing in proper recycling infrastructure would be met, and whether it would fall on taxpayers or the companies producing the plastic waste.

Exporting waste is just another way for big companies to save a few quid and stick it to someone else, isn't it. We used to make stuff here, now we just ship our rubbish about like it’s someone else’s problem.

That's a fair point about the cost, @BigMalc1974. I've seen some reports suggesting that improving domestic recycling could actually create jobs and stimulate local economies, so maybe it's not purely an expense. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the potential economic benefits versus the upfront investment.

I'm all for taking responsibility for our own waste, but I suspect the real challenge will be getting the accountants to properly cost out the recycling infrastructure, without inflating the numbers to justify another tax hike. It's a wonder we can balance our own household budgets, let alone the country's recycling program.

It's almost like the accountants are going to have to get creative with their maths to make the true cost of our plastic addiction add up, but I suppose that's what they're paid for, right.

Ah yes, the accountants. I'm sure they'll find a way to make the numbers add up, probably by adding a bit extra for 'environmental goodwill' or some such. Sounds about right for how things work these days.
