We need to introduce a points-based system for all immigration, not just skilled workers. This isn't about stopping people coming here entirely, but about making sure we attract individuals who genuinely contribute to our society and economy, and who have a clear plan to integrate. It should factor in skills, yes, but also things like having a job offer lined up, speaking good English, and not having a criminal record.
Frankly, the current system feels like a bit of a free-for-all, and it's putting a strain on our public services and infrastructure. Local services in Solihull are already stretched thin, and it’s not fair on existing residents to keep adding to the pressure without a proper plan. We need to control who comes in, not just react to who arrives.
This system would give us predictability and allow us to manage numbers effectively.
