I was talking to my sister the other day and she was telling me about her friend who's been waiting for a hip replacement for over a year now. She's in constant pain and can barely walk, but the hospital keeps pushing back her surgery date. It's ridiculous that in a country like ours, people are being left to suffer like this.
I don't know how many times we've heard politicians promising to fix the NHS, but it seems like nothing ever changes. The waiting lists just keep getting longer and longer. I've seen it firsthand with my own parents, who've had to wait months for routine appointments. It's not just the major surgeries that are the problem, it's the whole system that's broken.
We need to stop just throwing money at the problem and actually start making some real changes. We need more doctors and nurses, and we need to make sure they're being used effectively.
