What's the point of temporarily banning disposable BBQs when we know they'll be back on the shelves as soon as the heatwave passes, I mean it's just common sense to get rid of them for good.

We need to stop this stop-start approach to environmental policy and take a hard look at our whole disposable culture. I've seen it in the school playgrounds, the amount of waste generated by single-use everything is staggering, and it's not just the kids, it's the parents too, we're all guilty of it.

My allotment's been a lifeline for me since I retired, and I've seen how a bit of care and attention can make all the difference, but it's not just about nurturing plants, it's about nurturing a sense of responsibility, and that's what's lacking when it comes to our throwaway society.

With all due respect, I'm not sure banning single-use everything will have the desired effect, especially when I see people struggling to remember their reusable bags, let alone give up their disposable coffee cups. It's a bit like expecting everyone to suddenly become keen gardeners just because we're told to reduce waste.

I get what you're saying about people forgetting their reusable bags, it's a real hassle sometimes. But the point about the BBQs isn't really about people forgetting something, it's about a product that's inherently designed to be thrown away after one use, which feels a bit different.

You're right, remembering reusable bags is a pain, @PragmaticPat, but didn't we also see those awful piles of plastic waste left after the last disposable BBQ ban was lifted?
