I was talking to my nephew who's in the army and he was saying how much of their budget is taken up by maintaining our nuclear deterrent, it's staggering, and for what, I ask you. We're not going to use it, we all know that, it's just a symbol of a bygone era. My nephew said they're more concerned about having the right equipment to deal with cyber threats and terrorism, that's the real world they're facing.
I think it's time we scrapped our nuclear obsession and focused on what really matters, like investing in our conventional armed forces and our intelligence services. We need to be able to respond to the threats of today, not just the threats of the cold war era. It's not about being weak on defence, it's about being smart on defence, and using our resources where they'll actually make a difference.
