Are we really saying it's acceptable that people have to wait months for routine operations, only to be told they might have to go private if they want to get it done quickly. It's madness, and it's not what we pay our taxes for.
I think it's time we got our priorities straight and started investing in the NHS properly, rather than just throwing more money at it without a plan. We need to look at why these waiting lists are so long and start tackling the root causes, whether that's a shortage of doctors and nurses or inefficient systems.
We should be looking to recruit more medical staff from overseas, and making it easier for them to come and work here, rather than putting up barriers and bureaucratic hurdles. And at the same time, we need to be training more of our own doctors and nurses, so we're not reliant on importing them from elsewhere.
