It’s frustrating to see so many people casting votes just to register a complaint or to stop someone else getting in. That’s not how good governance happens. We end up with a muddled mandate and it makes it harder for any government to actually get things done. People should be voting for positive change, for a vision, not just out of spite or frustration.
My view is we need to empower local communities more. We should devolve more significant powers and budgets to local councils. This would mean they have real control over things that matter to people directly, like local infrastructure, housing developments, and even some aspects of local transport and health services. It makes local elections genuinely impactful.
