Why do we keep treating people who are down on their luck as if they’re trying to scam the system, forcing them through endless hoops just to put food on the table? The current welfare setup isn't a safety net, it’s an obstacle course designed to trip people up, leaving them stressed, unwell, and often worse off than when they started. It’s a disgrace, honestly, and it makes you wonder if it’s deliberately complicated to discourage people from even trying to claim what they need to live with a bit of dignity. We're spending fortunes managing a system that largely fails the very people it's supposed to help, and that makes no sense to me at all.
Instead of this punitive mess, we should implement a proper, universal basic income for everyone.
