Enough with the Westminster hand-me-downs – let Wales talk to its neighbours properly!

It drives me mad seeing Wales treated like some distant outpost, always looking to London for cues on how to engage with the world. We’re not some isolated island nation; we're part of Europe, with strong historical and cultural ties to our neighbours, particularly in Ireland and Brittany. Yet our international engagement is so often filtered through the UK government’s agenda, which frankly, rarely reflects our own priorities or interests.

We need a proactive Welsh foreign policy, not just a reactive one. This means establishing dedicated trade and cultural offices in key European cities, focusing on places where there are existing Welsh communities or strong economic links. Imagine having a proper Welsh government presence in Dublin, or Rennes, actively promoting our businesses, our culture, and our language. It’s about building direct relationships, cutting out the middleman.
