Stop letting developers price out locals with luxury flats nobody can afford

Why are we building endless blocks of flats that are snapped up by overseas investors or left empty as 'investments' while local families are crammed into tiny rentals or waiting years for social housing? It’s madness, and frankly, it’s heartbreaking to see.

My proposal is simple: a 'Community Homes First' policy. For any new large-scale housing development, 50% of the units MUST be designated as genuinely affordable housing. This isn't just a few 'shared ownership' schemes that are still out of reach for most. I mean proper social rent properties and starter homes for local people, with priority given to those who grew up in the area or have strong local ties. Developers who want to build here need to contribute to the community, not just extract profit.
