I was talking to my wife the other day, she's a teacher, and she was telling me about one of her colleagues who's been getting these really disturbing letters from an ex-partner. The police are doing what they can, but it's just not enough, the whole system seems to be stacked against her. It got me thinking, what's the point of having laws if we can't even protect people from harassment and violence.
I've been reading about these cases where people are being stalked and intimidated, and the police just can't seem to do anything about it. It's like the system is more interested in protecting the rights of the perpetrator than the victim. That's just not right. We need to make sure that our justice system is working for the people who need it most, not just the ones who can afford fancy lawyers.
I think we need to start by giving the police more powers to deal with these kinds of cases.
