Why are we making it harder for people to get back on their feet after job loss?

Seriously, what's the point of making people jump through hoops just to get a bit of help when they've lost their job? It feels like the system is designed to punish people for being unlucky, rather than helping them get back into work. We expect people to be grateful for whatever scrap they get, while the people in charge seem to be living in a different reality. It's just not humane.

My proposal is simple: a streamlined, needs-based system for unemployment support. If you've lost your job through no fault of your own, you should get immediate, practical support. This means a decent living allowance for a reasonable period, access to retraining programs that actually lead to jobs in demand locally, and dedicated career advisors who aren't just ticking boxes. We need to invest in people, not just process them.
