Doesn't it strike anyone else as a bit mad that our personal data, the digital footprint of our lives, is just... owned by whatever company manages to hoover it up? We click a box, sometimes we don't even read it, and suddenly our browsing habits, our likes, our location, it all becomes someone else's asset to package up and sell. It’s like we're providing free labour and raw materials for the big tech factories, and they get to keep all the profits.
My idea is simple: we need to establish clear, unequivocal legal ownership of personal data at the individual level. You, the person, own your data. Not Facebook, not Google, not your smart fridge manufacturer. This isn't about shutting down data sharing, it's about making it a consensual, compensated transaction.
