We need to mandate solar panels on all new housing developments. This isn't just about hitting green targets; it's about long-term cost savings for families and boosting our energy independence.
Right now, energy bills are a massive worry for everyone, especially with two little ones. Making solar standard on new builds means homeowners get cheaper electricity from day one. It also means we're generating more of our own power, reducing reliance on volatile international markets. Think of it as future-proofing our housing stock and our national grid simultaneously.
Implementing this would be straightforward. Planning regulations would simply need to be updated to include solar as a mandatory feature for new builds, just like insulation standards. Developers will adapt, and the initial cost will be absorbed into the overall house price, which will be more than offset by the energy savings over the years.
