I’m utterly fed up with hearing about ambitious Net Zero targets while my energy bills go through the roof. It feels like every politician wants to virtue signal with grand climate plans, but nobody’s thinking about how ordinary people are supposed to afford to heat their homes or keep their businesses running. We’re being sold a dream that’s bankrupting us in reality, and frankly, it’s irresponsible.
We need a pragmatic approach that prioritizes energy security and affordability alongside environmental goals. This means investing heavily in a diverse energy mix, including nuclear power and, yes, even some sensible exploration for domestic gas reserves to bridge the gap. It’s not about abandoning climate action, but about taking a realistic step-by-step approach rather than lurching towards unachievable ideals that punish families and businesses.

My daughter Sarah, up in London, is already feeling the pinch with her heating. It's all well and good aiming for Net Zero, but if families like hers are choosing between heating and eating, then something's gone seriously wrong with the policy. We need a more balanced approach that looks at practicalities.
Honestly, the government needs to consider the real-world impact of these policies on families right here in Scotland. We can't just switch to renewables overnight without a solid plan for affordable energy, and I'm not convinced they have one.
